Covid-19 in Puglia | April 18 Update

As of the week ending 16 April 19.8% of Italy’s adult population (over 16) have received at least one vaccination shot.

One week ago this was 16.9% representing an increase over a one-week period of 2.9%.

In Puglia 1,060,475 vaccines have been delivered. 895,245 (84.4%) shots have been administered.

Puglia remains in the red zone and subject to maximum restrictions at least until 25 April, primarily due to the pressure in intensive care units in hospitals. This weekend the Quotidiano di Puglia reported that after six weeks in the red zone no other region has faired worse than Puglia has.

We shop almost every other day for food and household “necessities”. This time last year during the first lockdown we left home only 6 times in 10 weeks to do the same. A sign of our own lockdown fatigue. And even though the coffee bars can only serve for consumption off the premises, groups of friends congregate outside, masks removed without regard to social distancing.
